This is my first attempt with pygame. Arrow keys to move, spacebar to shoot, and press "a" when top right meter is up to fill screen. My code is pretty ugly though I hope to clean this up in a later version.

Ive played the game quite a few times with each ship. The game works as expected and is a good base for a final version. It would be nice to be able to rotate 360 degress with the ship instead of just 90 degrees for each direction key. I've noticed that the collision detection is based on the size of the entire image file and not just the non-transparent parts of them which makes it a little more difficult to judge the ships position and movment vs. the asteroids'. Also, the different ships don't seem to act any different from each other, other than the speed which I'm sure you know (just making observations). I died a lot before the game even seemed to start, maybe because of the randoms spawn locations for the asteroids. I think it would be a little better if the playfield was a bigger, as well, considering the size of the objects on occupying it. I do like that the ship warps when moving off the screen. It seems to be a good start to a first project using pygame. Hope to see more versions from you. Cheers.
