PyHiero supports loading of Hiero fonts into Pygame-font-like objects that can be used for rendering just like you are used to. It supports

  • Alpha blending
  • Colors and backgrounds
  • Characters with differing sizes with nice kerning
  • Compactly organized bitmap sheets, split into multiple files, if desired

PyHiero is licensed under the MIT license, so feel free to use it in all your projects!

I incorrectly thought I was using Python 2.7. I am using Python 2.6. (I know. Upgrade, for cryin' out loud! I was a diehard psyco user, which did not work with 2.7. Haven't had a need for psyco in a couple years. Maybe I will upgrade...)

Very nice!

Coding those fnt files looks very laborious. Wonder how much a wizard would help, or if an image processor would be feasible.

I had to change only two things to make this compatible with Python 2.7. line 42:
samples = {}
for fontname, fnt in fonts.items():
samples[fontname] = fnt.render(blah, color=colors[fontname]) line 34:
vals = {}
for k,v in ( elem.split("=") for elem in l ):
vals[k] = ["".join(m) for m in HieroFont.RE_UNQUOTE.findall(v)][0]

our projects welcomes all python game, art, music, sound, video and multimedia projects. If they use pygame or not.
