Story of a Lost Sky - 0.6.0

Description

Our goal is to create a Strategy RPG in the vein of Fire Emblem / Final Fantasy Tactics based on the Touhou series.

Changes

In the past months, 0.6.0 has been under steady development. Much of the work has been on the game engine side, adding a lot of new features. After long delays, we've finally implemented a scripting system for bullet animations. The spell animations are now more like the spells used in the Touhou games. Also supported are pre-rendered animation sequences. Some other features will be transparent to players. We have switched over to using Pygame's internal sprite system for most of the work on the battle maps, which runs more smoothly because only portions of the screen are updated at a time. The second behind the scenes feature that we added is a reworking of the mission format to support more powerful scripting. Expect some of the future missions to have more complex scripting exhibited. On the content and gameplay side, there have been some major additions. Chief among them is a system of support spells that adds variety to the game. Reimu and Ran's roles are now more aligned towards supporting their allies with buffs and debuffs rather than directly attacking. A couple of map sprites have been added (Akyu, Keine, Mokou, Aya and Asa, by Nazerine). Sound effects have also been added and are in an experimental stage right now. We will be introducing sound effects throughout the rest of the game in the next release. We also hope to have new portraits in the next release.

Ah, cool - I just couldn't see the source download link anywhere. Now I have it! Wow, it's pretty cool! My only gripe is that sometimes I had to mash the keyboard to try to figure how to close some menu/interface. An explicit mention on the display of what key to use to exit a menu or other interface would be nice.

If you're not on Windows, you'll have to install Python 2.5.4 + Pygame 1.8.1 and run it from source (Launch by running srpg.py). Click on "Get Source" up in the upper right corner of the download website. I don't have access to other platforms (Linux, OSX) so I don't know how much help I can be with getting it to work.

Thanks for the comments.

I noticed that ESC for exit to be a problem as well (Namely that I hit it a couple of times). Would it be a good idea to have some kind of intermediate "Are you sure you want to quit?" menu or set exit to something like ALT+F4.

I'll look into doing keyboard configuration. Right now all the keys are hard coded into the game.

I don't have any access to a Linux machine so I don't know how things work in that OS. Sorry about that.

ESC for end game is an bad choice. Also there should be an way to configure keyboard for those people who dont have QWERTY keyboard.
The game could be startet with srpg.py in linux.
(Nice launch cmd here.bat maybe is is not so easy as in linux but it is possible to enable explore from here in explorer contect menu)

shundread: how you ran this on Linux?

This is a very good game. Lots of work done into making the full package. =)

It'd be nice to have instructions on readme.txt on how to run the game if you're not on Windows, however. I ran this on Ubuntu.
