StegaVorto - 2008.12.11

James Paige (jamespaige)

Last tuesday night I had a dream. In this dream, Michael Sweet, frontman of 1980's glam-rock hair-band "Stryper" appeared to me... except he was wearing a business suit... and standing on the front lawn of a public library... and he challenged me to play a game, a strange game that I had never played before. When I awoke I knew that I had to program it... Click on letters to spell out secret words. Your score will be higher if the distance between letters is smaller

Nothing like reading classic literature and playing a game at the same time.
Awesome game, thanks.

Ah, I follow. Okay, I moved the pygame.quit() so StegaVorto should be IDLE-friendly now

Running in IDLE it won't be deleted until teh app is closed - remove the __del__ function and move the pygame.quit() call to under the while self.playing loop, ie under line 823 - and outside the loop :)

roebros: the pygame.quit() has been there all along. Check the source. Any idea why it isn't fixing the problem?

takira: Weird. I wonder why I can't make that happen on my computer? What is your version of python and version of pygame?

ok and when I exit from the console I get the following message:
Exception exceptions.AttributeError: "'NoneType' object has no attribute 'remove'" in <bound method SeekWord.__del__ of <__main__.SeekWord object at 0x9db710>> ignored

Interesting game!
For the locking up, simply add "pygame.quit()" before closing the app ;)

Oh, that's just how IDLE is with pygame. If you want to avoid that problem you should switch to some other editor instead of IDLE. I personally like any one of Geany, Scite, or DrPython. There are lots of other good ones too.

Everything freezes upon exit when I use IDLE.

takira: What happens when you try to exit?

Very interesting game. I can't exit properly. Good stuff!!!
