Red Giant

Red Giant - 1.1

Rafael Álvarez García (algarafa)

Description

A simple space battle game. You can move the starship using the arrow keys and shoot misiles with the space key. If you have the 0.2 version or higher you can also shoot supermisiles using the C key. With the 0.3 version or higher you can shoot lasers with the X key. I hope you enjoy it! Please comment you're opinion.

Changes

It's the same game as the 1.0 version but now you can also save your Hi-score.

Very nice presentation but the game must be improved. adds some weapons, some sounds like explosions, some enemies etc... Good effort anyway.

You migth want to make the sound part of the game less "mission critical", that is, with Red Giant - 0.3 if the player's sound card is not found by some reason, the game will bail out with ugly message:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "redgiant.py", line 920, in <module>
main()
File "redgiant.py", line 883, in main
pygame.mixer.init()
pygame.error: DirectSoundCreate: No audio device found

Either the game needs to exit gracefully with a message if the sound is a vital part of the game, or display a small message saying that "no soundcard was detected" and keep the game rolling.

Otherwise nice effort :)

Cool! I find it interesting that you use 2 different languages in programming it.
The python code is English, while the comments and variable names are in Spanish.
I'll be looking for the next upload.

Thank you for your feedback! I didn't make the graphics, they are free graphics. I only did the life icon. Maybe I'll change a litle bit the starship controls making it easier.

Thank you again!

Good progress! I like the life icons. I killed three enemies with one super missile.

The motion is like an acceleration model, but the ship stops so suddenly at the edges of the small screen that it feels like it gets stuck there. Maybe it should bounce or something?

I like the control flow in your main() - I think I'm going to try to make mine (Stardog) more like that.

Did you make the graphics yourself? The enemies are very good.
