Music is stolen from Total Annihilation and 8gb is straight up overkill for such a low quality game. Jesus Christ.

  • Defenestrator 2013-03-13 23:54

    Has anyone bought this game?

  • Jason Woodstock 2013-03-29 04:19

yes, someone has bought this game.Play a demo version at my website at www.woodstockproduction.com

  • seatooth 2013-05-26 15:14

Learn to optimize your game dude, 6gb to 8gb is overkill for such a low quality indie game, and really dude $9 that's overpriced, that's just sad :(

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-26 20:13

Maybe you need to acquire a real job and some RAM memory.6 to 8 gb is a
    recommendation,not a requirement SEATOOTH.Oh,I'm so dejected.At least
play the demo for pete's sake.

Here's a good article on how much RAM is recommended for your computer.Go and look at the 6
to 8gb section in this article
    here:http://www.zdnet.com/how-much-...

    seatooth 2013-05-26 21:17

You don't need to be a huge defensive dick, also don't recommend 8 - 6 gb unless that is how much your game requires for smooth gameplay. You know your game isn't high quality so don't act like your top shit, because your game is not high quality and is not worth $9, and Dude I have 10gb I think I have enough RAM.

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-26 21:46

Space game 2 is good enough to be on cbs money watch here:http://markets.cbsnews.com/cbs...

As far as whether space game 2 is high quality,I know space game 2 is an good quality game, but I will let people judge whether this game is good or not.

Anyway, play the demo(check the windows source) if you can.And be more approachable to indie game developers.....(sigh)....

    seatooth 2013-05-26 21:49

Anyways good job on your achievement I am just saying I don't think it's worth $9 and it's good to know that it doesn't require 6 to 8gb of RAM. On another note, about how much sales have you had?

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-26 21:53

Thanks for the compliment....(didn't see that coming).Sales is good, but it could be better.I have a seo team working on improving my website rankings.Subscribe to my website to learn game programming, obtain my toolbar and more!Subscribe at www.woodstockproduction.com

  • jer 2013-05-27 00:10

This is a decent game I suppose, but it isn't worth 99 cents in my opinion. The video was horribly confusing and the graphics are just strange and low quality. No offence or anything... this game looks more like a first project and you can't really expect money from it. In order to have a good selling product as a turret shooter you need some really amazing combat systems invoved and it doesn't look like there's much besides shooting and some basic abilities in this game.

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-27 00:20

We appreciate your opinion, but space game 2 is supposed to be a simple, unique arcade style with various challenges(trust me).Personally,I think this is one of the best looking game on this website and you could at least play the demo version to experience the game.Much better than dark gates on this pygame website(which isn't even finish, and that's selling).Space game 2 also has 3 game modes(story, challenges, and soundtrack mode). You can also interact with the environment and use that to your advantage.

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-27 00:38

Also,I think you are confusing this as a turret defense game(which it isn't).Anyway,if this was my first game project, then I did a pretty good job. This is,however,my first commercial game though.

    jer 2013-05-29 02:17

I didn't confuse it for a turret defense, I'm aware its a turret shooter. I don't think you understand why people are so negative about your game... You're just not realising that it looks and plays like something a kid in grade 11 would submit for his final project in computer science class. It's not a good game.

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-29 02:36

Sure jeremy,I;m really sure your games are so great looking.Anyway this is my final comment from a very pessimistic group of indignant, jealous game programmers. You don't value indie games like mine and dark gates.

    SabyChing 2013-05-27 21:53

ditto. Not to mention how horribly organized the data is. You have the source with the images, music, ttf's, etc. You dont even use spritesheets.

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-27 22:26

And what does that have to do with the actual game?Quite irrelevant.I'm starting to think that most members on this website are very pessimistic about people's projects.Anyway, this is the last game that will be feature on this website.

    SabyChing 2013-05-27 23:11

I was just adding to what Jeremy said. it shows what kind of programmer you are and the reasoning why it takes so long to load. That is what it has to do with the game. Which by the way for me is like 60 seconds. You should take criticism better if you plan on making games. Especially if you are selling the game. Its a whole different realm that you cross when you sell the game versus show off the game, or ask for tips, etc.

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-28 00:25

For the first time any user loads space game 2,it will take a minute to load, but will load faster afterwords.Playstation 3 games take awhile to install as well.Anyway,we appreciate your opinion. What did you think of the demo and our website?

    SabyChing 2013-05-28 01:39

Well Based on your website, it looks like this is your first game. Which if so, it seems unreasonable to ask for money. In the end though, the 3d images dont really make anything special, it is still a 2d game. I am assuming you used blender or something to make the graphics and screenshot them. Which to be honest makes it look weird. However i can not say much regarding it, because i havent gotten more than 5 seconds in the game. I die within the first 2 seconds, regardless of me shooting, (is that a bug?) in which the only way to exit is to fully exit pygame window?, which after doing that a few times over and over, i cant stand waiting for the game to load again. Which by the way takes 60 seconds a pop each time to load the game, from start, to where i am in control. Which is why i critisized so much regarding the separated images as it may be one reason to why it is slow loading. Another thing that drives me nuts, is that you are asking 9 dollars for it. As an unknown game maker, I would assume that you would make some games (to be known), create a fan base, and then after that, make a game where you charge. To be honest, your company looks like a one man band, portraying to be multiple people with games upon games made in the past. Well anyway, the demo did not really catch my attention, Its just weird. The video shows some more intersting things that i dont quite understand, but since you cut that out of the demo, i guess i wont be playing it. Its not worth 9 bucks to see what that video is all about. Sorry dont mean to be harsh, just giving my 2 cents

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-28 02:16

Yes,this is my first commercial game, but not my first game I created(cough, jason game collection, cough).I know $9 may too much for some people, but I'm not going to give space game 2 for free and basically make all my diligent work for nothing. As for how to get past the first stage, use the shield(press 3 if you played though the tutorial) to repel the red ball.Maybe after awhile,I might sell the game for $5 discount for subscribers.I think using 3-d images with blender makes the game a lot more dazzling then 2-d images. It might also explain why it takes a little longer to load the game.Anyway,I am working on another project called monster melee 2.Check it out on my blog section in my website! Thanks.

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-28 02:23

This is my first commercial game, but not my first game project.Anyway, press 3 to raise your shield on level 1 to get past the red ball.I think maybe in the future I will make a discount code for subscribers to buy space game 2 for $5,however,this is an business and I have to make some money.Check out my shops and subscribe if you want.Blender 3-d images makes space game 2 more dazzling and will be used for an upcoming game project called monster melee 2(check the blog section in my website). Thanks!

A good article about indie game prices expectations here:http://jeff-vogel.blogspot.com...

  • Mekire 2013-05-30 03:36

The issue here is not people being unwilling to support indie developers as you seem to imagine it is. It is with people taking exception to those who ask for money prematurely. Both your project and Dark Gates, as you mentioned, are both very promising projects; but both of you asked for money far before you were ready. I actually quite liked the work on Dark Gates on his first free release, but it was a very raw project with many issues; as soon as the next release came with him asking for money I lost interest. You need to give people a reason to care about your work. Take this however you want. And yes, saying you need 6 to 8 gb of RAM for a game of this sort is, regardless of what you want to believe, a sign that the game has not been well written. Your game should not have a 1 minute loading time on the first time or on subsequent runs; that is ridiculous.

On a personal note I also take exception to people bumping their projects here when they have added nothing. This isn't your advertising site.

    -Mek

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-30 09:23

Thanks for responding and at least saying space game 2 is promising(because it is if you take the time to learn it in the tutorial). As for as me not contributing anything,I have, and it's called Jasons Game Collection. It's on this website and youtube(check the description in the youtube part for the source code and download link) here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

I believe the 3-d graphics is possibly the problem for the (about 40 to 60 seconds) startup.I never had any problems with the loading when it came to loading up 2-d graphics. It's worth it though for the graphics. And remember to use your shield on level one to deflect or protect yourself from enemies in the demo.

    Mekire 2013-05-30 10:44

I wasn't trying to imply that you have never contributed to the site; but rather that this was a bump, not a new release for this project.

As for both your memory issues and your loading times the cause is obvious. It may be fun to throw in the occasional 3d graphic in a 2d game using the technique of simply saving image frames; but it won't work on the scale you want to do it. If you want to do stuff like this with python/pygame you are going to need to invest the time and learn opengl. It is the shear quantity of the large images that you are trying to load (and keep all in memory) that is slowing you down. This is not how people do 3d as I'm fairly sure you know; It is just a trick that you can use to add a few 3d graphics to an otherwise 2d game.

    -Mek

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-30 11:01

Thanks for your opinion.I'm still impressed to make 3-d graphics with python/pygame even with a few loading problems. In the future I might learn to make 3-d dimensional games with blender.Anyway, subscribers on my website can buy space game 2 for $5.

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-30 11:03

Thanks for your opinion.I still find it impressive though to make 3-d graphics with python/pygame.Blender/python is a powerful package.

    Jason Woodstock 2013-05-30 10:54

Thanks for your opinion. In the far future,I might learn to make games in 3-d dimensions with blender.I'm still impressed that I was still able to make an 3-d graphics game with python/pygame(which is why users need windows 64 bit).Anyway, subscribers can buy space game 2 for $5 with their discount code.

  • Neccarus 2013-06-06 17:51

I played the demo, I am having a few problems though. Your game should NOT require to be restarted every time the player dies. Send them back to the menu, not the desktop. Also for the sake of organization, you should move all your image files into a separate directory. Your main directory looks VERY cluttered, and if you want anyone to take you as a professional, you should at least try and organize your project like one.

  • Jason Woodstock 2013-06-15 22:49

Well now,I guess I started a big discussion eh?
