PyTanks - 5.3.4

Description

The objective of PyTanks is to destroy each others tanks. You can do this by shooting a cannon shot toward the tank you want to destroy.

I got the idea from the other Tanks games out there and decided to make my own version of it.

Many more updates to come!

Changes

Updates:
  • New weapons and a weapon select area.
  • Tank is now rotated along the ground.
  • Main Menu music.
  • Fixed explosion detection.
  • Two new backgrounds.
  • Turn Arrow bug fixed.
  • Missile now spawns about 19 pixels away from the tank, not on it.

your file is missing the three "white_arrowX.png" files to run it, otherwise it run well on WinXP SP2.

Tested on a 32-bit Windows XP SP2, and got the message that some text had zero width, and games.Text had no attribute '_gone'. And PLEASE try and make it withought livewires.

Thanks for all the tips. Sorry, i forgot to put the fire button in controls.txt<br><br>
The game is also currently under heavy test/construction.<br><br>
I was going to put something in that empty place under the players i just didnt know what to. I will probaby put what you thought there. <br><br> Sorry about the window being so big. Ill change it on the next update.<br><br> I was going to have a wind indicator. I was going to have an arrow pointing to the left of the wind text. Thanks anyway. I will maybe have the scarf on the santa/person/thing on top of the pyramid flapping the direction of the wind.<br><br> im currently trying to slow the shot down without makeing the FPS lower.<br><br>That was a really good idea about the "HIT! and "MISS!" ill add that to the next update. <br><br>Also, i was going to have different weapons doing different amounts of damage, bigger and smaller explosions to.

Very nice implementation of a classic. For those that couldn't figure it out, ALT is fire (took me a while and it's not in controls.txt)

Some suggestions:

- since you have some space below a player, during their turn an arrow pointing up to their tank with their name beneath it would be a nice touch.

- don't make the window quite so large... those of us on laptops have to hack it down to fit. :)

- perhaps have a wind indicator, like the hat on the little guy on the pyramid for example, or maybe his scarf... flapping left or right. For the space level, maybe a hovering space invader with a scarf around his neck too??

- slow the shot down a little bit so you can enjoy the suspense of the shell flight ("Oh no, it's gonna hit... oh oho... oh it JUST MISSED HAHAHA!") That sort of thing.

- sometimes it wasn't clear if you hit or not, and you had to remember what the previous health was and try and think "did I hurt you more??" Perhaps a "HIT!" or a "MISS!" text for just a few moments between turns.

- Also... perhaps since you have 100 health, make the damage dependent on how directly you hit the player: direct hit is 25 pts, grazing hit is less and less and less.
