Description

A 2D sidescrolling platformer. Uses a beta version of my pygu library. Game features crummy dialogue, level select, save feature, baddies, a final boss, and more! Criticism and feedback is appreciated. Version 2.5 has major changes, so if you have already downloaded 2.0 or earlier, please download the new version. Download the sequel!

Oh and the "float" was intentional. If I took it out I'd have to seriously adjust the levels.

Okay. That's a good idea about the jump cancellation thing. I'll have a controllable height jump in the next release.

Yes, a tap should be a small jump, a hold can be a higher jump. Most platformers work this way, although some don't. If you allow in-air maneuvering, like mario, then the jump height should also be controllable, otherwise it feels off. There is another style where you don't have much control in the air, which is better for more physics oriented games, in which there is less control over the jump, and no control once the character is in the air. But I think you were going more for mario :) Also, when hitting your head, you should cancel out the jump. How you have it programmed, the character is able to "float" while hitting an obstruction above him.

Thanks! So maybe have it so if you hold space while jumping you hang in the air longer?

Nice use of ripped music... Very fun little platformer. The only thing it's missing is variable-height jumps. Not sure if that was on purpose or not. Makes some of the jumps with low ceilings very annoying.

Nice little game, but you need to check the case of your files: "Floor %d.lvl" != "floor %d.lvl" and "Jump.wav" != "jump.wav". Grumble mumble Windows users, mumble grumble mumble horseradish grumble.
