Inspired by the old Breakout games of the 70's and 80's
Futuristic/snazzy clones are a dime-a-dozen, so I went for a more classic feel. Granted, there are probably already a bunch of those, too :)
Uses Python 3, pysdl2 and a small C++ library for fast pixel-level manipulation (requires C++ compiler or x86_64-gnu-linux for the packaged draw.so library; see Makefile)

Changes

Specify ambiguous alpha values to support more devices (e.g. odroid-c1 with arch-arm works now)
Optimized static effect
