Comments: The function's docstring is very clear - it describes both the uses and limitations of this utility. Basically, using this function, you can generate a compressed string version of an image file, and store that string in your program. This is useful if you have a python script that (for example) only uses one small image, and you don't want to ship two separate files. This script incorporates a simple image viewer into the generated string, so you can view the resulting image.
